Parent Information Letter 2016-2017Parent Information Letter 2016-2017
August 2016
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the school year of 2016-2017! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer! At this time, I would like to share some information with you.
Expectations of student behavior is based on our Clearmont SOAR program: S – safety, O – ownership, A – attitude, and R – ready. Students earn SOAR coupons for positive behavior at school. The coupons may be used throughout the year for special events, spirit days, and trimester raffles. Referrals will be given if students are having difficulty with the SOAR expectations. A referral is notification to the parent/s to address student behavior concerns.
As a class, we work cooperatively to earn “positive behavior” celebrations. Positive behaviors are acknowledged and used on a class game board. When the final goal is met, the class earns a reward party for demonstrating appropriate fourth grade behavior.
Homework will consist of reading and continual practice of math facts and skills. Daily class work is written on the front board. If your child does not complete one or more of the daily work assignments while in class, they are required to complete the work that evening, in addition to their regular homework expectations. The time required to complete homework may vary, depending on your child’s work pace.
Reading at home is a homework expectation in fourth grade. A goal of 20+ minutes or more per night would be an excellent way to get started with an extended home reading plan. Your child will receive a reading log to document their reading time and effort. The reading log will be checked on Monday mornings. A variety of reading material (fiction and nonfiction) should be emphasized as well. Independent practice will help build comprehension, reading pace, and strengthen reading strategies for constructive meaning. A commitment to independent reading will make a significant difference in your child’s reading progress.
If a student does not complete his/her assigned work, a zero will remain in the grade book until the work has been turned in and graded. If a pattern of missing work develops, you will be contacted. Hopefully, the completion of homework and the expectation of being prepared for school everyday will be a priority in your household. From time to time, family emergencies do surface. If your child is unable to complete his/her homework and you are aware of it, a parent note will be appreciated.
Students are allowed to bring water bottles to school. To avoid accidents, please make sure lids are secure. Birthdays are very special days! To celebrate, non-eatable items to share with the class is permitted (ie. stickers, pencils). Currently, we have 21 students in our class.
If you have any questions or any information you wish to share with me during the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me. The direct line to my classroom is 847-472-3215. Our Clearmont web site and teacher page is a great way to stay in the loop!
It will be an amazing year!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelly Buccilli
