Spring 2014:  Proactive Preparation


  • Participate in CCSD59 Professional Development at the district and school level
  • Meeting with staff and students formally and informally
  • Review of professional learning practices building wide
  • Survey creation to all staff to gather feedback
  • Collaborative conversations with previous principal and new assistant principal
  • Professional reading and personal reflection
  • Understanding the building layout (external and internal)

Day 1:  July 22nd


  • Ongoing conversations to allow for relationship building with administrative team member (Assistant Principal)
  • Review and reflect on results of surveys from staff:  custodial and all teaching staff including teaching assistants and office staff
  • Plan of action to move forward with data collected from surveys
  • Collaborating with PTO in planning kick off and monthly events and activities to support the Clearmont community
  • Meeting with PBIS Team leaders to review student data and supports
  • Conversations with custodial staff and supports needed for implementation

Day 2-Day 10 (July 22-Aug 1)


  • Hiring / Interviewing process for staff members
  • Classroom design and set up for new programs at Clearmont School
  • Collaborative conversations regarding Dual Language programming and supports
  • Welcome email to staff with pertinent information to support their start to the school year
  • Establish a theme for the 2014-2015 school year
  • Create and put up posters with CCSD59 Big 6 in each classroom
  • Incentive punch cards for parental participation at Clearmont school and PTO events
  • Safety plan and procedures reviewed
  • Student data and student record review
  • Familiarity with CCSD59 policies, procedures and practices

Day 11-Day 20 (Aug.4 – Aug.15)


  • Work with CCSD59 Coaches to establish a schedule for support
  • Rising Star data review with BLT
  • Informal “snapshot” schedule created: allow for increased time in each classroom
  • Student and Staff Celebrations planned monthly
  • Collaborative conversations with partner schools and mentor colleague
  • PBIS Cool Tools expectations posters located around the building
  • PBIS quick reference guides for all staff in classrooms
  • Safety plan including drills scheduled
  • Planning Institute Day activities for staff
  • Budget Review:  Fiscal Responsibility

Day 21-Day 30 (Aug. 18-Aug. 22)


  • Finalizing Institute Days for Staff
  • Final touches to kick off PTO event for Clearmont Community
  • Weekly email updates to staff including celebrations
  • Parent and student activities on first day of school to place a strong emphasis on home – school connection
  • Ongoing formal and informal conversations with staff about learning and teaching to the whole child
  • Frequent and ongoing information sharing throughout the school year using social media
  • Daily student involvement in morning announcements

Day 31-Day 45 (Aug. 25-Sept. 12)


  • Creation of staff S.M.A.R.T. goals by grade level
  • Meeting with Student Services Team to review student goals
  • Facilitate various ongoing meetings to more specifically meet individual student needs
  • Positive reinforcement earned for staff and students
  • Ongoing collaborative conversations to support challenging students academically
  • Ongoing visibility with students and staff in classrooms, arrival / dismissal, lunch and recess

Day 45 – Day 60 (Sept. 12-Oct.3)


  • Facilitate conversations with students, so that they are able to explain and apply CCSD59 Big 6 and answer the question of “Why” we SOAR together.
  • Ask and facilitate important thinking questions to staff, “How do we know students have learned?  What is our evidence” to assist in teacher reflection.
  • Inspire staff with success stories and celebrations throughout the school year
  • Support, attend and participate in PTO / Clearmont Community / CCSD59 events

Day 60 – Day 70 (Oct. 3- Oct. 17)


  • Review of SMART goals with staff based upon formative and summative assessments
  • Ongoing collaborative conversations about student learning
  • Providing support and modeling of instructional practices
  • RtI:  Meet every 6 weeks with teams and ensure parents are involved in the process
  • Continually review educational plans for students
  • Evaluation process for non-tenured staff and continual observations and feedback opportunities with tenured staff
  • Ongoing review of budget:  fiscal responsibility
  • 360 survey created and disseminated to obtain feedback

Celebrations and Encouragement


  • Pancakes with the Principals:  weekly drawings for the end of the month breakfast celebration for those that earned SOAR tickets
  • Quarterly drawings with Parent Participation Punch cards for prizes donated from our Clearmont community
  • Teacher celebrations with random treats in mailboxes
  • Student birthday pencils and books
  • SOAR menu for various classroom celebrations
