Letter from the PrincipalLetter from the Principal

rachel-webDear Clearmont Families,

Welcome to the 2017 – 2018 school year! We are all looking forward to another rewarding and exciting school year at Clearmont Elementary School. Whether your family is new to Clearmont School or your children are returning to us after the summer, we look forward to continuing and developing a strong home-school relationship. Myself as well as Mr. Ganan, our assistant principal, are very excited to join the Clearmont family to work together as one school within one district to promote “success for all, for life”. Our talented staff and devoted PTO will continue to work together to address your children’s social, emotional, and academic needs.

I currently reside in the Northwest Suburbs with my husband and three girls; however, I grew up just outside Denver, Colorado. My hobbies include spending time with family and friends, reading, watching lacrosse and shopping.

When I was a child I struggled in school and had the opportunity to experience some fantastic teachers, as well as mediocre teachers. Together these experiences have allowed me to begin the journey down a different path, to be able to make a difference in the lives of others. I learned very quickly that I needed an engaging learning environment, a place where there was a necessity for teachers to use varied strategies and different “ways of knowing.” It was necessary for me as well as other students to have teachers that not only communicated to us but also WITH us. We need teachers that would take the time to actively listen to us for what we needed, so that we could gain a sense of accomplishment. Looking back on all of my experiences, as a student and an educator, they have all greatly impacted my practice one way or another to become the leader that I am today.

My 15 years of experience in education as Dean of Students/Truancy Officer, Social Worker and Assistant Principal, along with being a lifelong learner myself, have shaped my thinking and my practice with students, parents and staff. The majority of my years in education have focused upon collaboration in the following areas: social emotional learning, implementation of RtI, Special Education programming, procedures and IEP development and English Language Learner (ELL) programming. It is my philosophy that all students CAN and WILL learn, however it is the entire team’s drive to “do whatever it takes” to support and accelerate student learning at Clearmont School. WE can make a difference in every child’s success, to watch students SOAR during their elementary career at Clearmont School!

Our community is dedicated to creating a climate that meets the needs of each child and ensures each student becomes an enthusiastic and successful life-long learner. We all know that positive, strong partnerships between teachers and parents are an essential component for creating highly successful students. Your contributions to your child’s education at home and at school are sincerely valued and greatly appreciated.

My door is always open, so please stop by, introduce yourself and let us know how WE can work together to support your student(s) to ensure success for all at Clearmont School! We wish everyone a safe return to school, and look forward to sharing a wonderful and memorable school year partnering to achieve “success for all, for life!”

Sincerely,

Rachel Solomon
